Summary
When a top secret missile is stolen, the French Security Services hire two hapless civilians
– Ben and Will – to recover it. Little do they know it, Ben and Will are decoys,
intended to distract the enemy agents whilst the real agents execute their mission in
the background. Needless to say, things do not run quite according to plan…
Review
After the enormous success of
La Tour Montparnasse infernale (2001), the
popular comedy duo Éric and Ramzy soon returned to the big screen, hoping
to make an even bigger hit with this blockbuster thriller parody. With exotic locations,
sumptuous sets and action sequences that would almost rival the latest James Bond film,
Double zéro tries hard to be an exciting
send-up of a spy thriller, but it somehow manages to fall wide of the mark. Most
of the jokes are puerile, the plot is a ramshackle mess of tired comic book ideas and,
whilst they are evidently having the time of their lives, Éric and Ramzy are pretty
well wasted, failing to deliver the kind of innovative comedy that made their earlier
film so enjoyable. Double zéro
was originally intended to be a remake of John Landis’ 1985 film Spies
Like Us, but somehow ended up as a chaotic low-brow spoof, with one or two good
visual jokes amid the tedious running around and overly-intrusive (and rather childish)
CGI special effects.
